Mexican Night at Iona's. Dessert was two thirds healthy, one third chocolate, but totally yummy.

New Orchid

I bought myself a new plant this weekend. It's a dendrobium orchid. Isn't it pretty?

Ranunculus in Cream

I planted some ranunculus bulbs a while ago, not knowing what colours I had. The recent rain has definitely helped them thrive and I have a couple of beautiful cream flowers. I had a little bit of a play and came up with one photo and one photo with the colour boosted. I'm posting the second one because I really like the way the petals change colour to show where the light is hitting the flower.

Pretty Flowers

Some of my ranunculus have finally flowered. They're a lovely cream colour and they've got so many petals. I think they look a little like a crinoline petticoat upside down (or what I imagine an upside down crinoline would look like). So pretty!!

Moon

I haven't got it quite right, or even remotely close, but there is a gorgeous moon out this evening. it's bright and clear and makes me feel calm and peaceful (if a trifle chilly).

Mt Eden Gardens

My friend took me along to Mt Eden Gardens today. I've never been. It was the tulip festival today. And sunny. So it seemed like a good day to go. I have to admit though, that I didn't actually take any photos of any tulips!

I did however, take some photos of a giant magnolia, a michela bubbles (if that's the name, I remember the bubbles bit, just not sure of the other one) and a pond.

It was lovely to just wander around for a while. it ended up taking longer than we expected and we needed the sustenance of a cuppa and a cake before going on our way. But the sunshine made it worth it.

A Fish Shaped Egg!!

One of my new purchases from a great site called Little Japan Mama. It's a mould that makes an egg into a fish!!! Hahahahaha!!!

Auckland Art Gallery

My class went to visit the Auckland Art Gallery towards the end of last term. I was completely blown away by these fabulous floral installations by Choi Jeong Hwa. The colours are so vibrant. They just blew me away.

Day 28: Japan Day Displays

Well, I am really not doing very well this year. And I had so hoped to do better.

Anyway, I went to the Japan Day at the ASB showgrounds today. There was such a lot going on and some great stalls, displays and performances. There was also lots of great smelling food stalls.

These photos are of 2 of the displays that really caught my eye. There was a display of flower arrangements. The arrangements were interesting and very beautiful. As I walked into the hall, this huge and gorgeous arrangement was straight in front of me and I just had to take a photo. Isn't it gorgeous?

This other photo was of a gorgeous kimono from the Edo Period - I think. I was astounded by the detail and the beauty of it.

Day 1 (45 Days Late): Valentine's Chocolate

They're pink! They're shiny! They're chocolatey! What's not to like?

Time for a New Start

One of these days I'm going to start posting on time, but it's not going to be this year!

I was very disorganised and lacking in inspiration towards the end of last year, and my photos and this blog just kind of got lost along the way. It is my intention to be better this year. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

My photo blog therefore starts 45 days late, which is about the same as last year, so I haven't improved at all I'll try to do better in 2012.

Day 239: Ambury Farm Shearing Shed Seats

We went to visit Ambury Farm today. The children had a fantastic time meeting all of the animals and their babies. The children got to pet and feed lots of different farm animals.

When we went into the shearing shed to see a sheep be sheared, the seats had these fabulous animal footprints on them in bright colours. I liked it so much, I decided to make it my photo today.

A great day, but am tired now though.

Day 233: Plant Outside My Classroom

I'm getting back in the swing of things after not posting for what seems like such a long time. I just got out of the habit and it was a bit difficult getting back into things. Hopefully I can keep up with this - at least till the end of the year.
Anyway, today's photo is of a plant outside my classroom. I've never noticed it before - must wander around with my eyes closed. I really liked the shape of it.

Day 226: Battered and Broken

My poor lovely ranunculus. It's been battered and broken by the recent bad weather. Mind you, even so badly affected, it's still got a lovely colour to it.

Day 210: Fairy Gate?

I saw this tree root climbing a wall and it just made me think of some kind of fairy door/ fairy gate. It really just fired my imagination.

Day 203: Battered By The Storm

I was hoping to get a couple more photos of my ranunculus for you, but it's been horribly battered by the storm, so this may well be the last one of this flower. It's still very pretty, but you don't quite get the whole picture.
